Thinking of the Mediterranean?  We consider that the area around Split probably provides one of the most interesting and developing cruising grounds for relaxed summer sailing.  The Dalmatian coast boasts in excess of 1800 islands and a unique range of beautiful scenic ports and attractive local historic culture.  Our bare-boat charter base is at Split, which is located centrally along the extensive island strewn coastline.  Access by air is simple with daily flights from both London Heathrow and Gatwick, using Croatia Airlines.  Direct flights are most convenient and cost/time effective taking around two and a half hours, with an added taxi transfer time of only 20 mins to the marina at Split.

The surrounding area is one of the most attractive in the Mediterranean, with a stunning  amount of islands and ports only an hour or two from each other.  Here one could sail for two or three weeks visiting new places every day.  There are many excellently run, inexpensive and convenient marinas as well hundreds of charming anchorages.  The locals are both extremely friendly, helpful and very keen to make your stay most enjoyable. 

Food and wine is good, inexpensive and plentiful at the local supermarkets - although with so many excellent restaurants available eating out is pure pleasure and won’t break the bank!  The cuisine is more central European than Mediterranean with good seafood and meat as well as their traditional menus. We ourselves stopped and sample this excellent local fare wherever possible during the last two years!  Euros are often accepted, but you may find it  more convenient to obtain some local Kuna (Crowns) for many day to day transactions.

For those who want to practise their navigation, this area is ideal to start, no tides to speak of.  Exploring the delightful indented coastlines with the good local charts and an excellent English pilot book provides all that one could wish for on holiday.

The yachts are very clean, comprehensively equipped and well maintained. Whilst the season starts in April, they are quite happy to go on through to November (the weather in October is very good generally) and the out of season prices are superb!  Late in the year is the time for the harvest of the local grapes and olives - festivals to be celebrated!!!   An alternative, if you are not confident to take a yacht yourself, is to join one (or two) of our skippered charter weeks at an attractive price of £475 per berth.  You can be sure of being shown aspects of sailing as well as many of the delightful ports in a very relaxed style.

Call us for yacht availability.  Whilst we suggest you book you own flights we are always willing to help with contacts and will arrange the taxi transfer from Split airport to the marina for you.  We can offer the short loan of a video of the Islands and the areas around both Split and south to Dubrovnik.  Go Sail will make reservations of selected yachts and arrange bank transfers of deposits and balances.  Damages deposits are handled locally by credit/charge card slip. The Charterer will also need to show a VHF radio license and an International Certificate of Competence for insurance requirements.
